New Puma Malawi MD outlines vision for local market

Newly hired Puma Energy Malawi managing director Steveria Kadangwe says her mission is to maintain the fuel retailer as a leading oil marketing company in the country as it continues to expand its footprints nationwide.

Presently, Puma commands a 23 percent market share with 84 retail sites and a presence in all 28 districts.

Speaking during a media engagement in Blantyre yesterday, Kadangwe said they seek to ensure access to fuel even in remote communities while ensuring the security of supply, high-quality fuel approved to international standards and fast turnaround times.

She said: “Puma Energy Malawi is committed to continuous investment into Malawi.  As a corporate citizen, we pride ourselves with playing an active role in contributing to economic growth.

“We are optimistic in embracing and finding solutions to better serve our partners, customers and consumers within the scope of economic challenge the country faces.”

Kadangwe also disclosed plans to continue investing in renewable energy products such as solar PV at their facilities and their business to business customers through the launch of the solar power initiative.

According to Kadangwe, as of December 2022, Puma Energy had 18 solar systems operating in Malawi delivering low-carbon power, 14 retail sites connected to solar power and all its four depots installed with solar panels as part of a $33 million (about K58 billion )investment across Africa to install solar generation at 250 sites by end 2025.

She is an accomplished professional in the energy sector, boasting over 17 years of leadership experience within the fuel industry. Before her appointment as Malawi MD, she served as Puma Energy Ghana deputy managing director.

Kadangwe holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Malawi and an MBA from Heriot-Watt University.
